In the Middle Ages Amalfi was an artistically significant position. The St. Andrew's Cathedral, the convent of the Capuchin monks, the Campanile, and much artistic wealth especially in the time of the Normans. St. Andrew's Cathedral of Amalfi, in the center of the village of Piazza Duomo, in the Baroque style inside and outside Byzantine. Beautiful frescoes of saints, including that of St. Andrew, that date back to the eleventh century make it a mandatory destination of the country. The statue of Saint Andrew was sculpted by Michelangelo Naccherino, a pupil of Michelangelo. Sculptures in marble of Santo Stefano and San Lorenzo made by Pietro Bernini. The St. Andrew's relics were brought from Constantinople to Amalfi by Pietro Capuano. Here in the Cathedral is the tomb which holds a part of the relics of the apostle.
In the past, the nobles of Amalfi became most buried in the Cloister of Paradise, built by Augustariccio in the middle of the thirteenth century. Today, a real open museum with many pillars and artistic beauty of the Middle Ages. The Republic of Amalfi, also had its own structure (Arsenal Republic) for the construction, storage and repair of their vessels at the time of the most equipped and very feared.
Amalfi offers not only beautiful landscapes with many historical notes but also tradition in the construction of the paper, at that time among the top producers in the industry in Europe. In the museum (the paper of course) you can admire the equipment of that time for the production of handmade paper.


Positano, in the medieval port of the Republic after the mid-twentieth century, was the middle of many tourists and now appears a an obligation for the Amalfi coast lovers. The church of Santa Maria Assunta, a must visit for anyone visiting Positano.

Cosmas and Damian.
